Lake Management

The Pennsylvania Lake Management Society (PALMS) has created a comprehensive lake management handbook. The handbook includes information on both in-lake and watershed best management practices to improve water quality in lakes and ponds.

Volunteer Monitoring Program

The LWWMD initiated a volunteer monitoring program during 2004 under an EPA grant. Under the program, two sets of water quality monitoring equipment were purchased to assist volunteer monitors in the Lake Wallenpaupack watershed in monitoring the quality of their lakes. The equipment is available to borrow for monitoring events by contacting the LWWMD Administrator at 570-226-3865. The Handbook includes information on lake ecology, lake monitoring parameters, types of monitoring, and a description of the LWWMD Lake Monitoring Program. All volunteer monitors must be trained in the use of the equipment, and the Handbook includes a training module.

Streambank and Shoreline Stabilization

A Homeowner's Streambank and Shoreline Stabilization Handbook was produced by F. X. Browne, Inc. as part of a recent EPA Grant. The Handbook includes information on how LWWMD watershed homeowners can repair and restore eroded sections of streambank and shoreline on their properties. Streambank and Shoreline erosion are major contributors of nonpoint source pollution to Lake Wallenpaupack.

*Annual Lake Monitoring - Water quality monitoring of Lake Wallenpaupack has been performed each year since the Phase I Study was completed. The annual water quality monitoring program has been funded by PP&L. Long-term Water Quality Trends Analysis - PP&L funded a review of all existing lake water quality data for the period of 1980 through 2006.
